Join BPRC

Interested in joining Berkeley Paddling and Rowing Club? Before joining the club, all prospective new members must attend an in-person orientation (see below for New Member Orientation dates). Note that we expect you to already know how to scull or paddle before joining BPRC. After attending an orientation, if you wish to join:

  1. Fill out the online New Member Application
  2. Pay your annual membership dues online (see below) or bring a check to your first mentoring session. 
  3. You will be assigned a club Mentor. Mentoring sessions are required even though you may know how to scull or paddle in order to help you learn the rules and procedures of the club and the specific hazards on our waterway. New Member Checklist form should be completed during the mentoring sessions. The number of mentoring sessions required is entirely dependent on your skill level and ability to learn our rules and our waterway. If our club does not turn out to be a good fit within your initial mentoring sessions your dues can be refunded. Once you have been approved by your mentor you can then get a key and will be considered a full member.

Members and equipment are covered by our insurance, and mentors are helping fellow members, not providing free training to non-members. Formal teaching or coaching sessions are set up privately between members, and both student and coach must be full members if using club equipment. 

Memberships are available to those aged 18 and over and may include a spouse or partner, and any dependent children living at the same address. Minors may use the Club only when supervised at all times by a parent, legal guardian or coach who is a regular member.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

New member orientations are held every month on the 2nd Sunday of each month at noon. NOTE: There is no orientation for the months of November or December. Contact us with any questions

MEMBERSHIP DUES

Membership is $200 per year. New members joining in July or later in the calendar year pay prorated dues for the first year. Annual renewals thereafter are at the standard rate. Pay your annual membership dues online (see below) or bring a check to your first mentoring session.

  • However you pay, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAME as you gave it on your membership application with your payment and put “for membership dues”. (Zelle and Paypal have places to add a note with the payment, for a check just write it on the check itself.)
  • NOTE: the lower $100 annual rate of $100 applies to active student members and to short-term members (up to 3 months).  You must have prior approval to qualify for this lower rate.
