About
Mission
The Berkeley Paddling and Rowing Club aims to support, promote and educate the public about the amateur sports of rowing and paddling. This goal is accomplished through a variety of activities including:
- Open House events that introduce the community to our sports
- Youth group introduction sessions
- Mentoring sessions with more experienced club members
BPRC is home to scullers and paddlers (there is no sweep rowing at the club) who represent a variety of skill and experience, from novices to Olympians, including former national team members from around the world. While most of the club members row and paddle recreationally for fitness, several train for and compete in masters’ events around the United States and abroad.
BPRC membership is open to everyone and all interested parties (youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian) may join the Club.
Governance
The Club is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are elected for a term of one year at the Annual Members’s meeting each January. Both rowers and paddlers are represented on the board.
The BPRC board meets every other month on the 2nd Sunday from 10:00 am to noon in the facility’s gym. Every club member is welcome to attend. Officers are selected by board membership during the first meeting in February and include the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. As needed, there are also various committees, such as Membership and Equipment, that are supported by BPRC members.
